WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)


          Wireless Application Protocol allows users to access information instantly via handheld wireless devices such as mobile phones, pagers, two-way radios, smart phones and communicators.

          A WAP browser is a web browser for mobile devices such as mobile phones that uses the protocol.

 Applications :
  • Email by mobile phone
  • Tracking of stock-market prices
  • Sports results
  • News headlines
  • Music downloads
          WAP supports most wireless networks. These include CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data), CDMA (Code division multiple access), GSM, PDC (plan–do–check–act), PHS (Personal Handy-phone System), TDMA (Time division multiple access), FLEX (fast lexical analyser generator), ReFLEX, Iden (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network), TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio), DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications), DataTAC, and Mobitex.


          WAP is supported by all operating systems. Ones specifically engineered for handheld devices include PalmOS, EPOC, Windows CE, FLEXOS, OS/9, and JavaOS.
